The Top 30 Chance The Rapper Songs

In the early 2010’s, Chance The Rapper announced himself as one of the most unique and talented voices in hip-hop with 10 Day and Acid Rap. Then in 2016, he officially became one of the genre’s biggest stars due to the release of his project Coloring Book—which earned him three Grammy’s and launched him into the mainstream—as well as his work on Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo. Chance The Rapper became one of the biggest voices in modern music in 2016, and one of my personal favorite artists.

However, his career has been a little up and down since that explosive year. Chance remains one of favorite rappers today, but truthfully he hasn’t given fans a lot of great music over the past few years. Since Coloring Book, he has released two surprisingly decent Christmas mixtapes with Jeremih, a collection of fairly forgettable singles, and of course his infamous debut studio album, The Big Day, in 2019. The Big Day was one of the most highly anticipated albums of this past year, especially for Chance fans. Unfortunately, the album was panned by critics, and it wasn’t very popular amongst fans of Chance either. Personally, I was not a fan of The Big Day at all. Truthfully, that album will not be showing up very often on my list of his top 30 songs. The Big Day, like some of the other music Chance has released since Coloring Book, just lacked a specific type of energy that was more prevalent in Chance’s earlier work. Chance comes off as a youthful, rebellious, eccentric, passionate, and intelligent figure on 10 Day and Acid Rap. Conversely, he comes across as a dull, conventional, and uninteresting artist on The Big Day (A dull, conventional, and uninteresting artist who loves his wife though).

I’d love to see Chance recapture some of that energy that made him so special at the beginning of his career. I’m not advocating for him to just imitate his style from 10 Day or Acid Rap though, because I believe artists should grow and try different things as their career evolves. But, I do want to see a little more of the rawness and passion that I felt on his three first mixtapes. The Big Day felt way too polished and way too slick for Chance, an artist who has built his career off of keeping his independent image in tact. I still think Chance is one of the most musically gifted artists working today, and am hopeful that The Big Day just turns out to be an easily forgotten misstep in his career, rather than a sign of things to come. The “Chance The Rapper movement” that started with 10 Day felt like one of the more important and fun ascents any artist had this past decade. Chance fans, like myself, are going to stick around and greatly anticipate his next release despite our feelings toward The Big Day, because we are so apperceive of all the amazing music he has given us in the past. I wanted to highlight some of that great music, so I decided to create a list of his top 30 songs. Here it is.
