This seemed like a good idea at the time.
I love movies. I love going to the movie theater. I love immersing myself in new worlds, by being left in awe by brilliant directing, acting, writing, visual effects, and I love thinking about and trying to break down a given film in my head.
I don’t love lists as much, it is something I have discovered over the past few years or so when I started keeping a list of my favorite films of the year for that particular year. It’s hard, and stressful, and you feel like an idiot because you spend way too much time trying to get it right and then realize that ultimately no one is going see it and if they do they aren’t going to care. But that is also what I love about “movie people” we put so much time, effort, thought, love, and care into these works of art(and I do believe they are art) because of what they mean to us.
Four things before we start: 1) I’m absolutely sure I’ll change my mind on many things on this list after posting it, 2) 100 is a completely arbitrary and meaningless number that I chose almost at random because I thought it looked nice. This list could have been 25, 50, 100, 200, or 500 films, 3) I have unfortunately not seen every film to come out between the years of 2010 and 2019 so some may be missing from my list, and 4) End of the decade lists are especially hard because so much of it has to do with how many times I’ve revisited a film and what it has meant to me throughout the years, so it’s sometimes easier to find spots for films released earlier in the decade than in the past year or two.
But anyways, here is my completely biased, totally subjective, probably wrong list that I’ll end up regretting and wanting to change in 15 minutes:*
